Visit to UEL Fine Art Undergraduate Degree Show
5th July 2017
In anticipation of what lies ahead for the new Year 10s next September, a group of prospective GCSE Art students in Year 9 took the welcome opportunity to visit the University of East London Fine Art undergraduate degree show.
Artist and senior lecturer in Fine Art at UEL - Alexis Harding took students on a tour of the exhibition, giving students a taste of what would be expected should they chose to build on their creative talents at higher education.
Much conversation and musing centred on the breath of materials, techniques and disciplines on display - which spanned painting, sculpture, installation, photography, printmaking, performance and video (all of which are nurtured on the GCSE Art course at Park View) - and crossing a diverse range of concepts and ideas.
Luck would have it that we also met and had a guided tour of the undergraduate architecture studios by Head of Architecture - Carl Callaghan, who demonstrated the practical developmental stages, year by year, of the course - from object making to interior design to buildings and then finally townscapes.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring day and has certainly set expectations high for our students starting GCSE Art in September, and opened their minds as to what creative future pathways are out there for them.
