Our Year 10 drama students have been working hard in preparation for this year’s borough wide monologue competition The Hackney Shed Slam at BSix College. The project has been running in our school since October 2021 to December 2021. Leading up to the event, we held internal preliminary rounds within the school to whittle down to our two finalists Anissa and Adriana.
The Hackney Shed Slam is a borough wide competition that grades students on their preparation and performance of a monologue of the student's choice. The competition had judging panels from Hackney Empire, Punchdrunk Theatre Company, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Theatre Peckham.
The project is a valuable opportunity for the students to socialise, develop new skills, and perform to an audience outside their school community.
Students even had the opportunity to make decisions on their staging and lighting for their individual performances, which encouraged them to use artistic intentions.
We are delighted to announce Anissa came third in the competition, against some very strong contenders.  We are extremely proud of her for working really hard and taking direction and guidance so well throughout the process. Anissa was even approached by the Director at Hackney Empire and told of opportunities that are available to her. This is an incredible achievement and we can’t wait to see what the future brings!
