Parent Governor Vacancy

The Governing Body of Park View has one vacancy for a Parent Governor and we are looking for a parent or guardian of a Park View pupil who would like to support our school in this important role.

To be eligible to apply you must have at least one child currently on roll at Park View School.

The governing body provides strategic leadership and oversight in schools. It has three key functions:

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

Governors agree the aims and objectives for the school as set by the headteacher and oversee the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives. They monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making and act as a source of challenge and support to school leadership. In action, this means:

  • Appointing and performance managing the head teacher, including making decisions about pay progression as required
  • Scrutinising budgets and the rationale for and purchasing
  • Actively engaging with pupils, staff, parents and the school community
  • Sitting on panels and supporting decision-making in such processes as pupil exclusions and in formal staff disciplinary matters
  • Scrutinising the impact of the school’s work on all key groups including disadvantaged pupils, pupils with special needs, staff well-being and workload and teacher recruitment/retention.
  • Scrutinising pupil data and evidence to ask questions and challenge the school

Governors must be prepared to adopt the Nolan principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. Like magistrates or members of a jury, school governors and trustees have a right to reasonable time off work for their public duties, although this may be unpaid. Governance of local authority schools is a voluntary role and therefore it is not paid.

Governors and trustees should also be committed to their role and to the young people of Park View; confident in having courageous conversations; curious with an enquiring mind; able to challenge the status quo to improve things; collaborative to build strong relationships; critical to improve their own work and that of the board; and creative in problem-solving and being innovative.

The Full Governing Body meets as a group on average twice per term. In addition, you will be asked to join at least one committee. This may be the Finance, Staffing and Resources Committee (FSR) and/or the Curriculum Impact Committee (CIC)

As a Parent Governor, you will normally hold office for a period of four years even if your child leaves the school during this time.  You can, however, resign from the Governing Body at any time.

If you would like to be considered as a Parent Governor of Park View School, you must:
