On 3rd December, we welcomed the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to Park View School, where he announced that London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) will invest £1.3 million in a new programme aimed to provide 3,000 young people with positive opportunities after school.

The event saw a host of visitors including Tottenham MP, David Lammy, Director of London’s Violence Reduction Unit, Lib Peck and Deputy Mayor of London, Joanne McCartney, who came in to support and watch a powerful intervention led by The Safety Box team and spoke to our students about the importance of their programme.

The Safety Box programmes are accredited through AQA and are a refined system of training and development to help young people and young adults develop important skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, presentation, conflict resolution, personal development and problem solving.

As a school we recognise these extracurricular activities are some of the essential keys to success. They open doors to learning, and to opportunities in life, in addition to work.

To close the event, our students and guest enjoyed an incredible performance from the UK Queen of Gospel, Lurine Cato MBE, who completely blew the audience away!

We are incredibly proud of our students for being so open and brave in sharing their views on why the violence reduction funding is so essential for young people like them.
